Abandoned Sewers Trial

2010 July 26

My wife and kids are out of town so I have a free night. Thought I would try the Abandoned Sewer Trial. I ran it on a pick up team a few weeks ago (we failed) and thought it was fun. Sounds a lot like the Cathedral of Pain trial so this will give some practice for the re-introduction of that trial.

Would be nice to get some vets who have run this to help with the strategy as I have only done the one failed run.

Bump

For complete strategy see http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Abandoned_Sewer_Trial

For those new to the trial here are some lessons learned from my failed run:

1) Opening the door in the abandoned sewers starts the timer 1 Hour 30 minutes, once this is done it is imperative to get to bottom of the hole quickly to allow time to fight the Hydra.

2) On the way down everyone needs to grab a glowie to get their weapon (Thermite Cannon for tentacles or Particle Cannon for Hydra). We had several who didn't and had to go back up to get them. Also only take one as there is only enough for one per person. Don't waste time with unnecessary fighting here, get the weapons and assemble at the bottom!

3) Once down clearing the Rikti, Kraken Giant Monsters and tentacles needs to happen as a team and quickly. We separated and had many deaths which took time on the failed run.

4) The final attack must be well coordinated. The four force field generators must be defeated as close to the same time as possible. The first one down starts a timer to when the Rikti reset them but the Hydra is not vulnerable until all four are down so to maximize the damage to the Hydra they must go down at the same time then everyone attacks the Hydra (only Particle Cannons damage but everyone attacks to distract the Hydra). On the failed run one generator was taken early and the first round was wasted.

5) Once the generators reset the team needs to regroup and move as a team to clear the Rikti again and then defeat the generators again. We lost a lot of time here again as individual members tried to take Rikti groups and died. Clearing Rikti needs to be as a team to avoid deaths.

I/we, er..the Impossibles, when we ran it, would attack the FF generators untill they were about about 25% health, then stop, till every team got there. Then once every team is there, we say "go" and attack the last 25%. This tooka few extra seconds to set up, but really helped maximize our shield downtime. I've run this a bunch and can help out if needed.

Great Icebox I was actually going to use you to lead the team anyway since you are far more experienced then me.

We also used that strategy on my run. I was thinking of first clearing the rikti then dividing into four teams who each attack their generator to 25%. The team lead then says "Set" to allow anyone not ready to stop it and finally "Go" where everyone finishes their generator and moves to the Hydra.

I was going to use the request channel to separate the team lead from idle chatter as on the Hamidon raids.

I just wanted to get as much of the strategy out as I can before the run as succeeding in this Trial is all about mastering the strategy.

Also was thinking we need a good taunter on the team. Both to move the Rikti off the generators to avoid AOE kills on the generators and to occupy the Hydra when we attack it.

Great job everyone! It only took something along the lines of 40 minutes from the beginning of the mission to the defeat of the Hydra!

The victorious team!
