Kristjana Kalt was raised in Iceland by adoptive parents. She has no idea that she is a direct descendant of the Atlantean blood line. Just recently, as she reached her teenage years, she began to develop powers that could control ice and fire. Not knowing how to control them, she decided to move to Paragon City in search for assistance to help her learn her powers. Her adoptive father, Hannes Kalt, is a metallurgist and self taught blacksmith. He is also a big time Norse myth believer. So he crafted her an elaborate suit of armor to help protect her as she learns her way as a hero.

Upon arriving in Paragon, she wanted to use the name Cold Woman, but the city rep informed her that there are 15 other heroes with variations of that name. Translating the name to her native Icelandic tongue, Kalt Kona was born!
