The Star Queen hails from the planet Zebulon, a virtual utopia hidden light years from Earth. The planet's inhabitants were plagued by disease, war, and prejudice many centuries ago, but out of the darkness rose the Ganthralis family. The matriarch of the family, Mal'Zira Ganthralis, was a philosopher-warrior and inspired the entire populace to realize that only through peace and cooperation could they truly thrive. The people made the Ganthralis family a royal dynasty, entrusting their future to the paths laid out by Mal'Zira's female heirs. They would forever more be led by Ganthralis queens.

Over the centuries of peace and prosperity, the Zebulonians were able to evolve to a point unfathomable to humans. Their physical perfection and mental discipline far surpass even the most dedicated of warrior-monks on Earth, giving them what seems to be super strength, speed, and endurance. In addition, Zebulon's gravity is nearly quadruple of Earth's, enabling The Star Queen to fly while on Earth as well as allowing her to shrug off all but the most advanced of weaponry.

How she made it to Earth is an interesting story. As the Rikti invaded Earth in 2004, they sent one mothership into space to find other planets to plunder. They found Zebulon and they began a war that would envelop the planet for decades. Zandar, the eldest son of the Ganthralis family, was sent by his mother and queen to Earth with his little sister and heir to the throne in order to spare the girl from the horrors of war. They hoped Zandar could find a place where he could train his little sister, Bethu'Zira, in the way of the Zebulonians without the threat of the Rikti looming over her head. From the beginning of the war on Zebulon, the Rikti realized that if they could snuff out the royal line, the war would be theirs to win, for the Zebulonians would be lost without the leadership of the Ganthralis family.

When Zandar reached Earth, he found the planet ravaged by a war much the same as that on his homeworld. Fearing that the Rikti on Earth could communicate with those on Zebulon and thus hunt down his sister, Zandar searched Earth for a human family to keep his sister in seclusion, away from the prying eyes of the Rikti. In order to ensure her safety, Zandar used a Zebulonian device to completely wipe her memory clean, leaving her unaware of her life on Zebulon and her importance to their people. Soon after she had been relieved of the burden of her memories, Zandar found Mark and Susan Tyler, social workers based in Kings Row, who agreed to take young Bethu'Zira into their home. Zandar, assured of his sister's safety, then set about aiding the heroes of Earth in their war with the Rikti. He registered with Freedom Corps, adopting the name Greystar, and his royal lineage and noble demeanor soon attracted numerous followers. The renowned supergroup Star Warriors was born.

Bethu'Zira, now named Constance or "Connie" for Susan Tyler's grandmother, was raised in a loving family that struggled to stay on their feet in the wake of the war. In the 6 years since her arrival on Earth, Connie grew significantly, attracting numerous onlookers whenever she ventured out of the house. Even though she retained no memory of her life as Zebulonian royalty, she still exuded the air of nobility that many found in her brother, and it was not long before she was applying for membership in Vanguard in order to aid in the battle against the Rikti that had made life hell for her adopted family.

Zandar kept constant tabs on his sister, and when he realized her intentions to join Vanguard, he quickly intercepted her and reversed the procedure that wiped out her memory. The rush of recollection that flooded her mind was almost unbearable. She fell to the ground and wept for hours, lamenting that she was made to leave her homeworld, that her people were still at war...that she could not go home. Zandar explained to her that his intentions in revealing all of this to her were twofold: if she was to join Vanguard, he imagined it would be best for to be aware of her powers and lineage before entering the fight. Also, he required her to take his place at the head of Star Warriors, for he was set to return to Zebulon and once again aid in the fight on their own homeworld. He would leave her on Earth with Star Warriors, the experience of both leading the supergroup and joining Vanguard being a way for her to get accustomed to life as a warrior and leader. When he felt it was safe, he would send for her, and she could return to Zebulon and assume the queenship of her people.

After Zandar left for Zebulon, Bethu'Zira registered with Freedom Corps, telling the registrar that she was simply "a queen from a distant star." The registrar, accustomed to finding names for heroes that had that ring to them, shortened the name to "The Star Queen."

After her application to Vanguard went through, she was recruited by Jack Pentecost for his branch of Vanguard, The Lance. In need of a partner that was accustomed to leading men into battle as well as one who could inspire in the ways he could not, Jack felt she would be the perfect counter to his leadership style. Since she joined the group she has often taken the role of leading the second strike team at Jack's request. Fiercely loyal and ready to prove herself to the heroes of Earth and her Lancer comrades, she fights in the name of not only her adopted homeworld, but for Zebulon as well. This is obvious to her friends, for she is often heard shouting as she charges into battle, "For Zebulon!"

Since she regained her memories, she has become a different woman than she was as Connie Tyler. When she assumed she was only human, she was clumsy, shy, and often sheepish about both her size and strength. With her old identity returned to her, she is now confident, powerful, and intensely focused on whatever task is at hand. She will continue to aid Jack Pentecost in any way possible. While she has had her problems with his choices in the past, namely the murder of Protean, she trusts Jack implicitly, considering him a stand-in for her older brother Zandar. He fills a hole in her life that was carved from her heart the day Zandar left.

Also, she has started up a flirtatious relationship with the hero Pole Shift. He is the first person she has found that is not put off by the eerie look of her eyes, nor intimidated by her size. For now she considers him a brute, but his persistence and generosity is slowly winning the queen over.

The Lance refers to her by many names. Bunni prefers the familiar Connie, Pole Shift uses any number of unwelcome pet names, Razortail can only muster "ma'am", and Jack simply refers to her as "The Queen" when speaking with the Lancers, but Constance when they speak privately.

Ultimately, however, Bethu'Zira's goal is clear. When Greystar revealed to her the truth of her past, she promised to exact vengeance upon Rikti everywhere no matter what it took. She vowed solemnly, "I shall return home, and on that day Zebulon will once again have its shining Star Queen.
