The Badlander was once Jeremiah West, a loyal soldier in Marauder's elite unit that scoured the American Midwest for survivors of the Hamidon War. When Marauder began consolidating rival factions, setting himself up as a veritable ganglord, West saw him for what he is. For the rest of Marauder's time as the head honcho of the Midwest, the future Praetor's efforts were constantly sabotaged by a mysterious figure. In truth, West had gone off on his own, braving the wilderness of Hami-infested America and aiding families who were scraping by in this harsh wasteland. He never gave a name, so the locals took to calling him simply, "The Badlander."

Once Praetoria was established, The Badlander stayed outside the fences, often patrolling First Ward with his partner, Doc Malcolm. With Doc's help, he amputated his own arm to stop Tellurian infection and replaced it with an old Clockwork's appendage. With homemade gadgetry and military ingenuity, The Badlander strikes at Cole from the forgotten corners of America.
